- Site created July 10, 1997.
- First beta released July 20, 1997.
- Second beta information released August 3, 1997.
- Third beta released August 6, 1997.
- Minor site revisions, including the addition of extensive JavaScript
code on August 17, 1997.
- Oops! Internet Explorer link was outdated. Fixed that and other minor
typos on September 2, 1997. Also, look for the next beta release within
the next two weeks!
- Due to some recent setbacks, the next beta will not be up until sometime
late this month. I apologize for the delay. Also, my e-mail seems to have
gone haywire. I'll post another update when it's back up. For now, just
hold on. Some more cosmetic changes were made to the site on September
10, 1997.
- My e-mail has been re-established, so feel free to contact me once again. Next beta will be up by October. This new info was added on September 11, 1997.
- After some deliberation, I am now a proud member of the Internet Link Exchange! The (not-so) historic decision to join was made on September 18, 1997.
- All right, I'm sorry. That ugly beast known as reality has invaded my world and disrupted my schedule. I don't know when I'll be able to update the Character Generator again, so just hold on for awhile. Also, the Error-Report Forum has been disabled pending the discovery of a half-way decent CGI script by Geocities. I apologize for any inconvience. This latest batch of bad news was delivered on October 4, 1997.
- Finally, some good news! I have established a mirror site here at FortuneCity! It will contain a full-installation version of the Character Generator for those unable to run it now. Updates will continue to be placed at both this address and the original site at GeoCities. Salvation has arrived on October 4, 1997.
- The new error report forum is up, courtesy of GuestWold. Also, my e-mail seems to be down AGAIN, so please hold off trying to reach me. More minor site revisons accomplished on October 23, 1997.
- Okay, I've got a new e-mail address. You can go ahead and flood me now. Also, look for a new version sometime this month. Other minor maintainance preformed on November 10, 1997.
- In response to some complaints about downloading errors from FortuneCity, I have opened a new file archive at Xoom. I have also added a neat download selection page to help everyone navigate around. It uses a lot of javascript, so those without that capability will get a more mundane interface. Other assorted goodies added November 22, 1997.
- News Flash! I've just uploaded the Version 0.20 Beta Update! You can check out the features of the update there. More to come in the future. I also changed the screenshot to a monochrome GIF image. It's now much clearer, and smaller to boot. These goodies were delivered on December 3, 1997.
- Yes, yes. I know I haven't done much, but Real Life is intruding on my plans. The next beta will arrive by mid-February, sans the file-access errors. I just upgraded to Visual Basic 5.0, and will release the next beta ASAP. This news added and minor maintenance done on January 26, 1998.
- Development has been placed on hold! Due to severe problems with my computer in general, and Visual Basic 5.0 in particular, I am unable to support the Character Generator. Rest assured that I am working on the problems, however, and I will continue development as soon as I am able to. This sad annonucment added and more minor maintenance done on March 16, 1998.
- Site Redesign! Well, I got tired of the same old look that's been here for the past nine months, so I've finally gotten around to a major redesign of the site. It now uses all kinds of frames and javascript gadgets, yet still loads quickly! Site revision was completed on April 27, 1998.
Yeah, yeah, I know it really should be called the MechWarrior Character
Generator, but BattleTech sounds a little better. This is my first
try at a web page, so please don't expect too much. You may also note the
lack of images--this is both because of a lack of selection and of a desire
to keep the bandwidth down. Not all of us have T3 connections and such...
Now,
about the Character Generator. The beta version is now up, but it doesn't include all of the projected features just yet. Supported features will include:
- Easy "tab" interface
- Full Advantage, Skill, and Equipment lists
- Full selection of vehicles, including over 600 BattleMechs
- "Plug-'n-play" skill packages
- Support for both NPCs and Archetypes
Also included will be a Character Advancer, to update characters in
the course of their adventuring. This program currently comes in at around 4.5 megs for the basic package, plus another meg per update. So, I'll be able to put it up here, but not much else. And the best part of it all is: this program is freeware!
If you want other programs, try Slayer's
BattleTech Page. If you're the kind of person who likes pages of links
that lead to pages of links that lead to 404 errors, try Aaron's
Gaming and RPG Page.
If you encounter an error, please
fill
out an error report, but please check
here first, to avoid duplications.

MechWarrior, and all that other jazz is copyrighted by FASA

sue me. The BattleTech Character Generator is copyrighted by Unlocked Potentials,

page, okay? If you see something you like, why don't you e-mail
me and ask for it. I finally made Aaron's
Gaming and RPG Page an original BattleTech page so he'd quit copying off of me. That means that you can stop
mailbombing Aaron about how uncreative he is. Thank you.
